This are some of the tools that I use when I sculpt or carve wood.
Sculptures are carved from general to specific. First rough out the unwanted wood. Carving from all sides of the object.
Mapping our the object marking edges with a pencil and then cutting more areas away.
The shape is appearing legs are showing under the form. All the negative space must be carving out and removed. This takes hours and hours of hard work. A chisel and hammer at this stage.
At this stage i grind away the rough surface so I can more clearly see the forms definitions.
Removing more word working towards specific shapes or forms.
Details must be approached carefully. If you take too much off it unforgiving there is no way to put it back on. Any mistakes are permanent.
At this point the sculpture need to be examined carefully. I must work slowly and stop to look at each part i carve on.
At this point, I’m almost done but have to really consider the change in color if I spray it with varathane. Every tiny little part that I remove could spell disaster or could be genius. To sculpt you have to be brave!
This has a powder matte finish it has not been sprayed with varathane.
